Physical Education

Intent

In our primary school, the intent of our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is to provide all pupils with a  broad, and balanced PE programme that aims to inspire a love for physical activity, promote physical and mental well-being and developing key skills that will enable pupils to lead healthy and active lifestyles. Our intent is to ensure that every child, regardless of their starting point or abilities, can access and enjoy PE and sports activities, fostering a lifelong commitment to staying active.

Our PE curriculum is designed to be inclusive, with a focus on developing fundamental movement skills, promoting teamwork, resilience, respect, and fair play. We aim to provide a variety of sports and activities, both traditional and non-traditional, to engage and challenge pupils of all abilities. These activities are designed to not only improve physical fitness but also to enhance pupils' confidence, social skills, and overall well-being, while promoting oracy, speaking, listening, and articulate communication skills within a supportive and encouraging environment with a strong emphasis on a growth mindset.

Implementation

Our PE curriculum is implemented through carefully planned and sequenced lessons that are progressive, ensuring that pupils build on their skills and knowledge over time. We offer a wide range of activities that cover different aspects of physical development, including dance, gymnastics, athletics, team sports, and outdoor adventurous activities.

Teachers and sports coaches are highly skilled and trained to deliver engaging and challenging PE lessons that cater to the diverse needs of our pupils. They provide clear learning objectives, opportunities for pupils to assess their progress, and constructive feedback to support continuous improvement, promoting confident and resilient learners with a growth mindset.

We place a strong emphasis on the holistic development of pupils through PE, integrating aspects of physical, mental, and social well-being into our lessons. We encourage pupils to take ownership of their learning, set personal goals, and reflect on their achievements, fostering an inclusive environment where every child’s voice is valued.

Impact

The impact of our outstanding PE provision is evident in the physical, emotional, and social development of our pupils. Our pupils demonstrate improved physical fitness, coordination, and mastery of fundamental movement skills. They show increased confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude towards physical activity and sports, highlighting a culture of inclusion and a growth mindset.

Through regular participation in PE lessons and extracurricular sports clubs, our pupils develop teamwork, leadership skills, and a sense of fair play. They learn to persevere through challenges, celebrate success, and support each other in achieving their goals, demonstrating confident, resilient learners equipped with a growth mindset.

Our pupils showcase a genuine passion for staying active and leading healthy lifestyles, with many choosing to pursue sports both within and outside of school. The positive impact of our PE curriculum extends beyond the school gates, contributing to the well-being and success of our pupils in all aspects of their lives, highlighting the importance of early years in laying the foundation for a lifelong love of physical activity and well-being.

Our outstanding PE provision ensures that every child receives a well-rounded education that equips them with the skills, attitudes, and values needed to thrive in an ever-changing world, promoting a culture of lifelong physical activity and well-being from the early years foundation stage onwards.

Our school recognises the importance of using assistive technology in PE lessons to support the needs of all our pupils, ensuring that inclusivity remains at the heart of our provision. We engage with stakeholders, including parents, carers, and external organisations, to gather feedback and continuously improve our PE curriculum, ensuring that it remains responsive to the evolving needs of our pupils and the wider school community.
