Computing

Intent

At Bankfoot Primary School, we recognise the pivotal role that computing plays in preparing our students for the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Our intent is to provide a dynamic and inclusive computing curriculum that empowers every student with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in the 21st century.

Implementation

At Bankfoot Primary School, computing is delivered with teaching that is informed by up-to-date subject knowledge and pedagogy. It fosters oracy, speaking, and listening skills among pupils. Teachers are confident in their ability to deliver the computing curriculum and provide opportunities for pupils to develop their computational thinking skills through practical and engaging activities.

All pupils are encouraged to be articulate, resilient, and have a growth mindset when approaching computing tasks.

We provide access to a range of resources and technologies to support the teaching and learning of computing at Bankfoot. We cater to the needs of all pupils, including those requiring assistive technology. This includes devices such as chromebooks and tablets, as well as software and apps that allow pupils to explore different aspects of computing, such as coding, digital creativity, and online safety.

Our computing is integrated across the curriculum, allowing pupils to apply their computing knowledge and skills in other subject areas. This cross-curricular approach helps pupils see the relevance of computing in real-world contexts and enhances their understanding of how technology can be used in different ways, helping them to be better prepared for future challenges.

Impact

The impact of computing education in Bankfoot Primary School can be seen in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed by pupils. Pupils demonstrate a deep understanding of key computing concepts, such as algorithms, programming, and data handling. They are able to apply their computational thinking skills to solve problems and create digital projects independently, fostering their resilience and growth mindset.

Our computing curriculum has a positive impact on pupils' confidence and attitudes towards technology. Pupils are enthusiastic about computing and see themselves as creators and innovators in the digital world, being ready to embrace new challenges. Additionally, pupils across the school develop a strong awareness of online safety and digital citizenship, enabling them to navigate the online world responsibly and respectfully.
